Upper School Dress Code

A documented relationship exists between student dress and

success, school pride and safety.

As representatives of the school, Clayton-Bradley Academy’s goal is that students present themselves in a neat and professional manner.

We recognize the uniqueness of each student and seek to support their individuality, but it is important for each student to understand the concept of appropriate dress for particular situations.

General information regarding school uniforms:

  • All clothing must be in SOLID school colors.  This includes:  white, khaki, black, burgundy, light yellow or grey.  The only exception is that skirts may be in CBA plaid.
  • All students must have at least one burgundy polo with the CBA logo.  These are worn on Wednesdays and may be required for some field studies.
  • Clothing cannot have a logo other than CBA logos (very small brand logos are permitted, such as the small Polo horse on a polo shirt).  No slogans on clothing are permitted.
Shirts Students may wear:

  • Polo shirts or collared oxford shirts or blouses, short or long sleeved (if t-shirts are worn beneath such a shirt, it should be in school colors)
  • Sweaters (crew, v-neck or cardigan), vests and jackets that are accompanied by a collared shirt or a turtleneck
  • T-shirts may be worn beneath crew and v-neck sweaters

Students may not wear:

  • Sleeveless shirts
  • Sheer materials
  • T-shirts alone or under cardigans (see exception for Casual Friday below)
Pants & Shorts Students may wear:

  • Solid-colored dress or chino/Dockers-style pants or capris (not denim) in any school color except white or light yellow
  • Solid-colored dress or chino shorts no shorter than 2 inches above the knee.

Students may not wear:

  • Cargo pants
  • Jeans (see exception for Casual Friday below)
  • Athletic/yoga pants
  • Leggings as pants
Skirts Female students may wear:

  • Skirts in in any school color except white or light yellow or CBA plaid that are no shorter than 2 inches above the knee
  • Leggings worn beneath skirts must be solid (no embellishments)

Students may not wear

  • Dresses
Outerwear During the school day (in the classroom) students may wear:

  • Blazers/suit jackets
  • Fleece full-zip or quarter-zip jackets
  • Sweaters (see “Shirts” above)

Outside the classroom students may wear:

  • Fleece, sweaters, CBA sweatshirts, CBA Athletic jackets
  • In inclement weather, non-CBA coats and raincoats may be worn OUTDOORS only, but should be in school colors
  • Rain/Winter boots

Students may not wear:

  • Sweatshirts, hoodies in the classroom (see exception for Casual Friday)
  • Blankets as jackets (in or outside of classroom)
Shoes
  • Shoes must be worn at all times
  • Footwear should be neat and in solid neutral colors  
  • Leggings, tights, socks must be plain (no patterns/embellishments) and in school colors

Students may not wear:

  • Flip-flops
Accessories
  • Make-up and jewelry should be minimal, worn in good taste and not distracting to others
  • Piercings must be limited to ear piercing. No visible body art.
  • Hats/Beanies are not to be worn indoors.
  • Hair should not be dyed in unnatural colors.
  • Hair accessories in school colors only.

Special Dress Code Days

Casual Fridays On Fridays, students may wear regular dress code attire, but in addition, student may wear:

  • Jeans (neat, no holes)
  • CBA t-shirts, sweatshirts, CBA team shirts
  • Solid, neat t-shirts or sweatshirts in school colors (not white)

Students may not wear:

  • Shirts with slogans/large logos
Presentation Attire – HS

(men)

When giving a presentation, men should wear:

  • Solid school color or white dress shirt
  • Tie (neck or bow) in school colors
  • Standard blazer in maroon, black or grey (optional for in-class presentations; required for large group or public presentations). School crest optional for blazer.
  • Khaki, black, or grey slacks (no shorts)
  • Solid socks
  • Solid color dress shoes/black, brown

Men may not wear:

  • Tennis shoes, flip flops or other casual shoes
Presentation Attire – HS

(women)

When giving a presentation, women should wear:

  • Solid school color blouse
  • Standard blazer maroon, black or grey (optional for in-class presentations; required for large group and public presentations) School crest optional for blazers.
  • Khaki, black, grey slacks or skirt (skirt appropriate length as listed in dress code)
  • Solid color tights, hose or socks (in warm weather – bare legged is acceptable with appropriate dress sandals)
  • Solid shoes or dress sandals (heel size for shoes should be 2 in. or less)

Women may not wear:

  • Casual shirts (t-shirt, tank, polo) under blazers
  • Tennis shoes, flip flops or other casual shoes

MIDDLE SCHOOL –  PRESENTATION ATTIRE

  • School logo polo shirt
  • Khaki, black, or grey slacks or skirt (khaki shorts acceptable in hot weather)
  • Solid leggings/socks
  • Accepted hair and jewelry as listed in standard dress code

LARGE GROUP/FORMAL PRESENTATION

BOYS

  • Solid school color, collared shirt (oxford cloth or other)
  • Tie (neck or bow) in school colors
  • School color cardigan or pullover sweater/vest (optional) (crest optional)
  • Khaki, black, or grey slacks
  • Solid socks
  • Solid color shoes/black, cordovan

GIRLS

  • Solid school color blouse or shirt
  • School color cardigan or pullover sweater/vest (optional) (crest optional)
  • Khaki, black, or grey slacks or skirt
  • Solid tights, hose or socks
  • Solid color shoes (no tennis) or dress sandals
  • Accepted hair and jewelry as listed in standard dress code

PHYSICAL EDUCATION ATTIRE UPPER SCHOOL

YOUNG MEN

  • T-shirt with school logo in solid school color
  • Solid school color shorts – basketball style and length OR solid sweatpants
  • White or black socks (may be ankle length)
  • Tennis shoes worn at all times

YOUNG WOMEN

  • T-shirt with school logo in solid school color
  • Solid school color shorts – basketball or track style and length (minimum 4 inch inseam); no short-shorts
  • Solid school color Yoga pants (if worn with long t-shirt)
  • White or black socks (may be ankle length)
  • Tennis shoes worn at all times
